Dirty Hands

Monday nights, FHE nights! As usual I was trying to cook something yammy, So We could have our meal and our family time. Last night however , I was surprised, as I watched the meal getting could trying to convince my husband to wash his hands before dishing up. He had just left the restroom and was trying to convince me that his hands were clean, because his " private parts" are cleaner than any other part of his body, so if he goes to the restroom to do " number one" he has no need to wash his hands. Naturally I strong disagreed. Now, my beloved family and friends, I hate to bother you with such a trivial and indelicate subject , but my explanations alone were not sufficient to enlight my husband's inquisitive mind. He does understand why women need to wash their hands after " number one", but why should men do it? What do you think?

ADAM!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS????? That's so gross! Please tell me you were just teasing. First of all lets talk about all the places that you have to touch when you are in the bathroom that you don't know who else has touched or what was on their hands at the time that they touched it: the doorknob, the toilet seat, the handle to flush, even the walls. Not to mention you should be washing your hands throughout the day anyway because you go around touching a lot of things that other people touch. Money for example is filled with gross things that if you could see you wouldn't touch it, like feces residue. Yeah, gross. And you SHOULD be washing your hands before you eat, bathroom or not. So if you're not washing your hands after using the bathroom, when are you washing your hands?!? Using the bathroom gives you an opportunity to get your hands clean as well at a convenient time since you are in the bathroom anyway.

And besides you should do it just because MOM taught you better than that.

Adam, I still love you, but don't be offended if next time I see you I don't want to shake hands. ;)

P.S. Fabi - hope that helps.

I was going to say exactly what Ondria just said, but since she said it so well, I'll just say ditto.

Love you guys.

Thanks so much Ondria and Whitney! Your comments helped a lot!! I dont have any "guy" comment though, Do you think they all have the same idea? I did some research on the Internet and found out that 60% of men dont think it is important to wash their hands after using the toilet... crazy huh?

Amen to Ondria. Like Whit, I was going to say the same things.
I've heard numbers like that too Fabi- what's the big deal- it takes 1 minute of your time!

Hmmm....well Fabi, I think our husbands must be brothers! I can't tell you how many time Heath and I have had the same conversation. Ondria, I agree completely. Maybe we should ask Courntey? Did they learn this method from dear ole dad? :) Oh, this could spark a good debate. Too bad you and Adam won't be in Mesa this month when we are, we could really hash it out. I'll for sure have Heath read your post. Thanks for bringing it up. Now I have someone on my side. :)

Okay, okay, okay. First of all in a boys bathroom you don't have to touch the toilet seat, the handle to flush, the walls, etc. I agree with Ondria that you should be washing your hands throughout the day and if the bathroom is a good reminder to do that then by all means use that time to wash your hands.
However, I also agree with Adam that in a typical guy or girl manner of going to the restroom it is more important for the female to wash her hands based upon the actual event of using the restroom. Now it isn't my intent to get into the nitty gritty of male and female anatomy, but lets just say there are less germs spread to my hands from me standing up and going to the bathroom than there are on the bug infested sink handles, paper towell dispenser nob, or those nasty door handles.
The point is, you should wash your hands when you are done using the bathroom, but more so because you should just wash your hands throughout the day and that is a good reminder to do it, rather than because you just went to the bathroom!
